World in a Box

A short film celebrating the 50th Anniversary of International Container Services into Australia.

This short film:

  • provides a permanent record of the 50th anniversary of the first international door-to-door container service that arrived in Australia in March 1969
  • outlines the development of containerisation in Australia during the subsequent 50 years
  • provides a look to the future of shipping with advances in technology
  • offers an insight for training of personnel in the international trade and transport industry by demonstrating the role played by international shipping in everyday life in the 21st Century.
The 2019 Container Project Committee was formed by a group of former senior Australian shipping executives keen to celebrate this important milestone. World in a Box was officially launched by Senator the Hon Simon Birmingham, Minister for Trade Tourism and Investment on 22 October 2019.

“Without your interest and dedication to this Project, it would never have happened, and would have remained in my head as a mere figment of my sometimes ‘fertile’ imagination. Thank you for producing such a professional and magnificent product, particularly when you realise that, prior to the making of the film, you had no detailed knowledge of the shipping industry.”

Martin Orchard, Chair, The 2019 Container Project Committee:
“Well done. You have done a great job organising this Project.”
Frank Needs, Member, The 2019 Container Project Committee
“I had a look at the film this afternoon. It’s fantastic! I like the way the narrator brings it all together, and the story-telling is very persuasive.”
Lachlan Crews, Assistant Secretary, Trade and Investment Advocacy Branch, Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade

I am so thankful for your enthusiasm towards this Project which has turned out beyond my wildest dreams! I am confident that the film will engender a good deal of interest.”

Martin Orchard, Chair, The 2019 Container Project Committee:
